RAJASTHAN, INDIA

Our Defender journey through Rajasthan was nothing short of epic.

The Vehicles for our Defender Trip in Rajasthan | Go by Lidija

A fleet of eight badass cars, filled with equally badass friends, led by the incredible Cougar Motorsports team — the kind of crew who turned a dream trip into something flawlessly real. But truthfully, the adventure began before our wheels even touched the road.

IT STARTED IN DELHI

A party for three of our closest friends: a darling husband, an impossibly beautiful wife, and a spectacular sister — all whose birthdays fell within days of each other. The party theme? Superheroes. Capes sweeping the floor, masks shining under moonlight, and a DJ spinning beneath the fullest moon I’ve ever seen. That night felt like ignition — a spark that hinted we were stepping into a world where anything could happen. I suspected it. And I was right.

From Delhi we rolled into Jaipur — the Pink City — where even the air feels blushed with rose-toned magic. Every façade glows, as if the palaces and bazaars themselves have been washed in sunset. A colour once reserved for royalty now welcomes anyone curious enough to wander its streets. Jaipur is vibrant, chaotic in the most romantic way, overflowing with craft, culture, and colour. Just driving through feels like entering a living postcard.

We spent our first night at the iconic Rambagh Palace, regal in every breath it takes. And the next morning, like a league of superhero misfits assembling, we climbed into our Defenders and pushed deeper into Rajasthan.

Osian came first, all golden desert and horizon. Then Sambar Lake — India’s largest saline wetland — where vastness almost swallows you whole. Driving across it felt like gliding across another planet.

At Reggie’s Camel Camp we paused for a playful breather. Endless dunes, sun-drenched silence, and locals whose warmth made you dance (literally). One of the ladies was dressed so impeccably in traditional attire that I still think about that outfit.

Ranvas, Nagaur - Palace | Go by Lidija

But nothing prepared me for Ranvas, Nagaur — a palace within a fortress dating back to the 12th century. I truly wasn’t prepared to be so awestruck by its beauty. This grand residence, once home to a Maharaja and his sixteen wives, has witnessed centuries of history — of kings, lovers, and endless stories. It’s hard for me to find the right words to describe it, but every corner echoes the rich legacy of eras gone by. If only walls could talk.

We celebrated here with a feast of regional Indian dishes (my burrata butter chicken draws inspiration from this magical evening). After dinner, musicians filled the courtyards with vibrant Rajasthani folk rhythms, and we danced until the stars blurred into sound and colour.

Then came Narlai — a village tucked against ancient rock. And those rocks? The Aravalli Range, one of the oldest mountain ranges on earth. By day we went leopard-spotting, eyes combing stone and shadow with the obsessive determination of a convoy on a quest. Hours passed. Then one leopard — just one — spotted like a reward only patience earns. Superhero moment unlocked.

That night was something out of a fairytale — a stepwell lit by more than two thousand candles. Each flame flickered like its own tiny universe. Proof that magic very much exists. We dined by the glow of the flames, and danced until the wicks were worn.

The next morning, we took a trip to the Ranakpur Jain Temple, a sacred space built not only of marble, but devotion itself. We entered barefoot with cool stone under our steps. The silence inside was not one of emptiness — it was very much alive. The temple is carved like the most delicate lace: 1,444 pillars, each one unique, like prayers turned to architecture. Light filtered through intricately cut domes, and there I stood, humbled — deeply moved by a faith expressed in detail beyond reason, where being present felt like a privilege. It’s a stillness you don’t forget.

Lidija on a Boat Tour in Udaipur | Go by Lidija

UDAIPUR

When we arrived in Udaipur, the city of lakes, it marked the final chapter of our journey — and one of the most spectacular. We stayed at The Leela Palace, where we were greeted with a spectacular shower of flower petals as we arrived — one that leaves you joyful and stunned in the same breath. The lake was dotted with lotus flowers, drifting softly across the water like floating blessings, proof that beauty can blossom in the most unlikely places. We took a boat ride and slid across that shimmering surface, past palaces glowing in the late afternoon sun. It was cinematic, hair-raising, and deeply peaceful all at once.

And of course, the markets were as chaotic, colourful, and irresistible as you would expect from Mother India. Textiles, jewels, spices, carvings. I wanted every single thing. Instead, I left with gratitude and a memory heavier than any bag could hold.

My journey through Rajasthan was everything at once
— Lidija

My journey through Rajasthan was everything at once — adventure, history, celebration, wonder — the pulse of a superhero origin story stitched into every mile. We drove. We feasted. We laughed. We got lost. We were found. And we let Rajasthan hold us — wild, generous, unforgettable.
